The Time Expansion Chamber as High Precision Drift Chamber

چکیده

With the principle of the time expansion chamber and the additional measurement of the position of the avalanche along the circumference of the anode wire it is possible to reconstruct the spatial distribution of the primary ionization in space. A position resolution for minimum ionizing tracks of a 5 30 urn is expected. First tests and concepts for vertex detectors are presented.

The Marx Ii Secondary Vertex Detector*

We have added a high precision drift chamber to the Mark II detector at PEP. The design of the device has been optimized for measuring vertex topologies as accurately as possible. This has involved placing wires within 10 cm of the beam line, using a beryllium beam pipe as the inner gas wall of the chamber, and improving the accuracy of the drift-time measurement. The chamber operates reliably ...

Computational Study of Radiative and Convective Heat Transfer in a Cylindrical Combustion Chamber

In this paper, the effect of cold air on the fluid flow inside the cylindrical combustion chamber and its wall temperature distribution have been studied computationally, taking into account the effect of radiative heat transfer from hot gases. The results have been compared with the case that radiative heat transfer was neglected. It is observed that the reattachment length increases when incr...

Lifetime Tests for Mac Vertex Chamber*

A vertex chamber for MAC was proposed in fall 1983 to increase precision in the measurement of the B hadron and 7 lepton lifetimes. The chamber had to be placed within the existing central drift chamber, making access for repairs difficult and costly. We therefore used for detector elements thin-walled aluminized mylar drift tubes (“straws”) because of their simplicity and robustness. lp2 The d...

Additives That Prevent Or Reverse Cathode Aging In Drift Chambers With Helium-Isobutane Gas

Noise and Malter breakdown have been studied at high rates in a test chamber having the same cell structure and gas as in the BaBar drift chamber. The chamber was first damaged by exposing it to a high source level at an elevated high voltage, until its operating current at normal voltages was only ~0.5nA/cm. Additives such as water or alcohol allowed the damaged chamber to operate at 25 nA/cm,...

Stabilizing nanometer scale tip-to-substrate gaps in scanning electrochemical microscopy using an isothermal chamber for thermal drift suppression.

The control of a nanometer-wide gap between tip and substrate is critical for nanoscale applications of scanning electrochemical microscopy (SECM). Here, we demonstrate that the stability of the nanogap in ambient conditions is significantly compromised by the thermal expansion and contraction of components of an SECM stage upon a temperature change and can be dramatically improved by suppressi...
